Clarke County hosted the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles in a Dec. 6 basketball contest that was the Area 1 opener for both of the teams.
The Lady Eagles entered the contest at 1-3 on the season and with the hopes of improving that record as well as getting off to a successful start against area competition. However, repeated turnovers and the athletic play of the host team proved to be too much for the Lady Eagles in a 71-21 loss that dropped them to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the area.
Clarke County stymied the Lady Eagles' offensive efforts from the outset of the game and held a comfortable 19-2 lead at the end of the opening period of play.
The Lady Eagles found a little more offense in the second quarter with 10 points, but Clarke County continued on an offensive roll that enabled them to build a 41-12 halftime lead.
More of the same occurred in the third and fourth quarters. Outscoring the Lady Eagles 30-9 in the second half, Clarke County cruised to an impressive 50-point win.
