Officials with the Brewton Police Department were dispatched to East Street on Dec. 30 where they found the body of a 42-year-old Brewton man.
Harry E. Haughton, 42, of 210 East Street was discovered at his home at around 3:30 p.m. by neighbors who immediately called the authorities.
Officers Thomas Agerton and Thomas Powell responded to the scene along with D.W. McMillan Ambulance Service. Paramedics entered the home and verified that Haughton was deceased. Police reports indicate that rigor mortis had set in the body.
Police Chief David Lovelace said the body was transferred to Mobile to the Alabama Department of Public Safety's forensics lab so that a cause and time of death may be determined.
Lovelace said there were no signs of foul play at the scene of the death, but said the case is still under investigation.
According to police reports, the time of death was likely to have occurred anywhere between Dec. 28 and Dec. 30.
