The Escambia County Commission held its first meeting of the new year Monday and looked to clean house as they placed items under surplus property to sell.
The county will be bidding out two 1983 Dodge vans, a 1994 Crown Victoria, a tack truck, a welding machine and a butane gas tank.
The county has determined that these items are no longer useful to them and that they have very little monetary value.
All of the items are located at the Brewton shop. The commissioners approved to place the items for sale and provide potential buyers with an opportunity to purchase them. Details of the sale will be announced at a later time.
The county also paved the way for the continuation of the Escambia County Transit System (ECATS). The county approved to enter into an agreement with the Federal Transit Authority which provides funding for the program.
The agreement is made each year which states that the county agrees to provide the services without discretion.
The approval of the contract is pending an attorney's approval.
The commission also voted unani-
mously to accept District 4 commissioner James "Junior" Hall's nominee for a vacancy on the Escambia County Healthcare Authority.
Hall recommended to the commission that the seat vacated by Becca Smith be filled by Atmore Chamber of Commerce Director Emilie Mims. Mims will serve District 4 on that board.
Commission Chairman Larry White reminded the commissioners about an Escambia County Board of Education public forum scheduled for Tuesday evening.
