Another area family has been left without a home after a fire destroyed their mobile home on Wednesday. This marks the third house in the area destroyed by fires within the past two weeks.
East Brewton firefighters responded to 378 Thomas Rd. at approximately 2:40 p.m. While they were able to extinguish the blaze within five to 10 minutes, they remained on the scene for 2 1/2 hours battling hot spots.
Michelle Ward, a mother of two, had recently purchased the mobile home and had just completed moving her furniture into the home. She had not moved her clothing into the home. The family was not at home at the time of the fire.
EBFD responded with 13 firefighters and an engine. Brewton Fire Department also responded to the scene to provide backup.
Shell said the home was totalling destroyed. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
American Red Cross Director Rogene Martin said the family is in need of furniture, pots, pans and other items that were destroyed in the fire.
