A Damascus man was found dead this week by officials with the Escambia County Sheriff's Department who said the victim suffered from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
James Isaac Andrews, 36, was found inside his truck by a relative on Monday, Jan. 27. He had sustained a single gunshot wound. He was found inside his truck parked outside of an unoccupied residence on Hodge Creek Road in the Damascus Community.
The sheriff's office is currently investigating the shooting.
Deputies, investigators and emergency medical technicians responded to the scene. A medical officer at the scene pronounced Andrews dead at 4:45 p.m.
Along with the body, investigators found a .22 caliber pistol inside the vehicle.
Andrews was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. Early evidence indicates that Andrews may have committed suicide.
Sheriff Grover Smith said the case will be presented to an Escambia County Grand Jury once the investigation is completed and the official autopsy results are sent from the Department of Forensics.
