In their last three conference outings, the Jefferson Davis Warhawks gained one win against two losses to place their overall record at 4-19 and conference mark at 2-6.
Southern Union 92, Warhawks 77
A Jan. 30 contest on the road against Southern Union Community College saw the Warhawks fall behind early and never recover.
The hosts pretty much had their way in the opening 20 minutes of action, as they ran the floor while building a 17-point halftime lead.
The Warhawks mounted a bit of a rally in the second half, cutting the deficit to 10 with five minutes remaining in the game. Southern Union then did what was necessary to get back on track and stretched the advantage into a 92-77 win.
Offensive leaders for the Warhawks were Jamal Carson, 30 points; Jeff Foster, 12 points and Greg Dickinson, 11 points.
Faulkner State CC 96, Warhawks 86
In their Feb. 3 matchup at home against Faulkner State Community College, the Warhawks fell behind before a second-half comeback failed just short of overtaking the lead.
Faulkner State controlled the action in the first half and held a 47-37 advantage at the break. The Warhawks then came back in the second half and pulled within two points with only minutes left in the game. But, Faulkner shot down the JDCC attempt to steal a win by answering the rally with strong play down the stretch. As the final horn sounded, the visitors were in possession of a 96-86 victory.
Warhawks' scoring leaders were Kenny Thompson, 15 points; Greg Dickinson, 13 points; Ephriam Hudson, 13 points; Rafael Phillips, 13 points and Jamal Carson, 10 points.
Warhawks 89, Lawson State CC 80
The Warhawks got back on track with a Feb. 6 road win over Lawson State Community College.
With solid play on both ends of the court, the Warhawks entered the halftime break enjoying a comfortable 41-30 lead. The JDDC advantage escalated into a 20-point lead in the second half before a Lawson rally cut it down to seven. However, the Warhawks regrouped to hold the hosts at bay and returned home with an 89-80 victory.
Kenny Thompson scored 24 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead the Warhawks' offensive efforts. Others scoring in double figures were Brandon Montgomery, 22 points; Jamal Carson, 15 points and Jeff Foster, 10 points.
