Mrs. Mildred Irene Newsom, 81, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003 in a Pensacola hospital. She was a native of Elba and had been a resident of Brewton for the past 67 years. She was retired from Container Corporation of America where she was a secretary. She was the youngest member of surviving charter members of First Baptist Church of East Brewton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buck Newsom and a granddaughter, Kim Lamkin.
She is survived by three daughters, Sharon E. Lamkin of Brewton, Linda S. Williams of Birmingham and Rita O. Johns of Gautier, Miss.; one brother, William J. "Dub" Davis of Brewton; two sisters, Cupidene Franklin of Brewton and Olene White of Waycross, Ga; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 16, at 3 p.m. at Craver's Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Brister and Rev. Chuck Bounds officiating. Burial followed at Ridge Road Baptist Church Cemetery with Craver's Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were deacons of First Baptist Church of East Brewton.
