Entering the last week of the regular season, the Jefferson Davis Warhawks were looking for a strong finish to prime them for the upcoming postseason regional tournament. However, with two losses by lopsided scores, the Warhawks must focus on regrouping before beginning tournament play on March 3.
As they head into postseason competition, the Warhawks have compiled a 6-23 overall record.
Faulkner State 87, Warhawks 63
Bay Minette was the setting of a Feb. 24 contest between JDCC and Faulkner State Community College.
After building a lead early in the game, the Warhawks allowed the hosts to gain control and run away to a decisive victory.
With just over 15:00 remaining in the opening half, the Warhawks led by an 11-6 score and appeared to be on their way to putting forth a strong showing. But, foul problems and a sudden inability to convert from the charity stripe contributed to Faulkner dominating the latter part of the half and taking a 34-18 lead into the locker room at the midway point of the contest.
More of the same took place in the second half. By game's end, Faulkner stretched the 16-point halftime lead into an 87-63 victory.
Kenny Thompson and Jamal Carson tied for team scoring honors with 12 points each.
Shelton State 95, Warhawks 68
In a Feb. 27 game pitting the Warhawks against the Shelton State Bucs, Shelton got double-digit scoring totals from five players in a dominating 95-68 win.
In the opening 20 minutes of action, numerous unforced turnovers by the Warhawks coupled with Shelton's superior inside play led to a 50-25 Bucs' advantage at intermission.
Even though JDCC continued playing hard in an effort to mount a second-half comeback, the early deficit was too much to overcome. As the buzzer sounded to end the game, the Bucs were in possession of a 27-point win.
Offensive leaders for the Warhawks were Ephriam Hudson, 13 points; Greg Dickinson, 12 points and Marcus Alexander, 11 points.
