A deployment ceremony will be held for the Detachment I, 1165th Military Police Unit of the Army National Guard, Saturday, March 15 at the National Guard Armory at 2 p.m. There will be no provisions for seating so attendees should bring their own chairs and assemble by 1:30 p.m.
Participating in the ceremony will be Brewton Mayor Terry Clark, Adjutant General of Alabama Major General Crayton M. Bowen, commander of the 167th Theater Support Command, Major General Ronald S. Stokes and the commander of the 122nd Support Group, Colonel Allen M. Harrell. There will also be other dignitaries on hand during the ceremony. A representative from Gov. Bob Riley's office may also attend.
Tuesday, March 18, at 7 a.m. the 1165th MP Company will depart from the National Guard Armory and proceed north on Hwy. 41 to Brewton, turn right and north on U.S. Hwy. 31 to Tiger Drive
where it will turn to the left to Appleton Road and then proceed to I-65 and Ft. Benning, Ga.
City officials said they are hopeful that citizens of Brewton will participate in both days' activities to let the military unit know that they have the support of those here at home.
Officials request the show of yellow ribbons and flags both along the travel route and throughout the city.
