Mrs. Esther Mae Byrd, 96, died Saturday, March 8, 2003 at a local hospital. She was a native of Flomaton and a lifetime resident of Escambia County. She was a former Pink Lady at the Greenlawn Hospital, a former member of the Friendship Club and attended the Presley Street Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Byrd; a son, Oscar Byrd; a daughter, Velma DeWitt and a sister, Zora Golden.
She is survived by her a granddaughter, Anita Daniel of Nokomis; a grandson, David Byrd of Atmore; a daughter-in-law, Loraine Byrd of Atmore; three grandchildren and other friends and relatives.
Funeral services were Tuesday, March 11, at 10 a.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Dukes officiating. Burial followed at Little Escambia Cemetery. Pallbearers were Randy Byrd, Billy Byrd, Thomas Qualls, Earl Fore, Wayne Lee and Mike Golden.
