A group of local women are looking to send needed items to American troops in the Middle East and are looking for local residents to help out in the effort through donations.
Looking for a way to help out soldiers fighting and providing support for the war in Iraq, Glenda Schulte, Juanita Vernon and Lisa Hobbs have organized an effort to provide some "little luxuries" to the troops. They have set up drop-off points at several local businesses and will send the items donated to the Middle East, most likely through the help of the American Red Cross or the U.S. Postal Service.
Local residents are being asked to drop off donated items at On-Cue Records and Super Foods in East Brewton. A box has been set up inside these businesses for the donations.
In addition to the drop-off points, there will be volunteers set up at Fred's in East Brewton and at the Information Center in Brewton from 10 a.m. until dark.
In addition to helping those fighting overseas, the ladies are also looking to aid the families of the national guard members from Brewton. They, along with other volunteers, will bag groceries at two local stores for tips that will be dispersed evenly among those local families. On Thursday, the group will be bagging at Super Foods in East Brewton from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.On Friday, the group will be at Food Fair in Brewton from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
