Mr. Dillard L. Mayson, 81, died Saturday, April 12, 2003 at a local hospital. He was a native of Mexia and a resident of Flomaton for the past 54 years. He was a veteran of World War II receiving a purple heart. He was a past board member of Escambia County Bank from 1965 to 1993, a past board member of Escambia County School Board and the Tri-County Chamber of Commerce. He attended Flomaton First Baptist Church. He worked at Henderson Funeral Home in Brewton in 1946, Craver's Funeral Home in 1947, Flomaton Funeral Home in 1949 and became owner/operator of Flomaton Funeral Home and Craver's Funeral Home until his retirement in 1991. He was co-owner of the Village Flower Shop and was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Mayson Campbell.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Troutman Mayson of Flomaton; his daughter, Mary Beth Mayson of Flomaton; a brother, Francis Mayson of Garden Grove, Calif. and a granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 15, at 10 a.m. at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Keese and Rev. Fred Brown officiating. Burial followed at Flomaton Cemetery with full military honors and Eastside Chapel Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were Sterlon Scott, Dewey Bondurant Jr., Jerome Upton, Shorty Hardy, W.T. Gafford, David Matheny and James Walter Ash.
