T.R. Miller dominates in track meet

The T.R. Miller High School track team dominated six other schools in a meet the school hosted last week at Tiger Stadium.
The boys' track team earned a total of 189 points, cruising past second-place Monroe County, who earned 142 points, and W.S. Neal, who earned 99 points.
The girls' team also shared in the success, although the competition was much closer. The Lady Tigers earned a total of 129 points to Central's 118 and Monroe County's 31. W.S. Neal finished in fourth with 30 points.
T.R. Miller finished in first place in the 4×100 relay with a time of 44.53. They also finished first in the 4×400 relay with a time of 3.57.
Individual winners for the boys' team inlcuded: Neal Cheatham in the high jump; Antonio Gomez in the high hurdles; Michael Jones in the 100; Antawn Gomez in the long jump; Antawn Gomez in the tall jump; Cheatham in the 400; Antonio Gomez in the 300 and Jones in the 200.
W.S. Neal finished in first place in the shot putt. W.S. Neal's Dunn took top honors in the 800.
Antonio Gomez earned the most points for T.R. Miller, getting 44 in five events. Antawn Gomez earned 29 points in five events and Neal Cheatham earned 25 points in four events. Rodney Lane earned 22.5 points in five events. Other scorers for T.R. Miller included: Michael Jones, 22.5 points; Skylar Fountain, 18.5 points; Demetrius Preyer, 14 points; Michael Hunt, four points; Hunter Madden, two points; Keath Turner, two points and Spencer Preyer, one point.
In girls' track, T.R. Miller finished first in the 4×100 relay with a time of 50.99. They also finished first in the 4×400 relay.
Brittnee Malloyd finished first in the shot putt and long jump while Joy McCorvey came in first in the 100 and the 200. Jasmine Sanford was first in the tall jump while Shay Lane took first in the 400.
Malloyd earned the most points for the Lady Tigers, taking 33 in five events. Sanford was close behind in second, earning 31 points in five events. Other Lady Tigers earning points included: McCorvey, 25 points; Lane, 23 points; Candace Smith, 16 points; Alicia Lodge, six points and Ashley Samuel, four points.
The Tigers will host the 3A Sectional Track Meet on Friday for the first time in several years. Seven schools from south Alabama are expected to compete, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
