A Brewton woman was arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly attacking an employee of a local video store with a knife on Monday.
Mary Prime Walker, age unknown, of Lewis Lane, allegedly entered the video store at approximately 11:15 a.m. and proceeded to cut an employee there several times, including on the face.
Officer Jason Gleaton and Sgt. Mike Smith of the Brewton Police Department responded to the scene. The manager of the store told the officers that the suspect had left the store, but she showed them a knife that she claimed was used by the suspect during the altercation.
BPD officials said the victim suffered several lacerations to her face which had the appearance of scratch marks. They also reported that she had a 3/4-inch-by-1 1/4-inch square gash on her left arm, just above the elbow.
A folding knife with an approximate three-inch blade was taken by the police for evidence and the victim was transported by private vehicle to the hospital where she was treated.
Police Chief David Lovelace said witnesses saw Walker enter the store and attack the victim.
Walker was found by police later that day, arrested and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center.
Lovelace said the case is still under investigation and that the motive has not been determined.
