A's win third straight; Cubs stay close

After beginning the season with a loss, the A's notched their third consecutive victory to take over the lead in the East Brewton Little League 9-10 year-old division.
The Cubs lost to the A's to begin the week's play, but rebounded with a win over the Yankees that placed their record at 3-2.
Rounding out the standings are the Yankees with a 1-4 mark.
A's 9, Cubs 6
A May 6 meeting between the A's and Cubs was one that was virtually even in base hits and errors, but the A's took advantage of walks to register a 9-6 win.
Over the course of the game, the A's received eight free passes on walks. Meanwhile, Reid Johnson and Joseph Strength teamed-up from the mound for the A's to allow only four walks.
Johnson gave-up one hit and struck-out one while Strength allowed two hits and registered nine strikeouts.
Ben Bounds tossed a four-hitter and struck-out eight in a solid effort for the Cubs.
Leading batters for the A's were Reid Johnson, 2-for-3 with one run scored; Joseph Strength, 1-for-2 with two runs scored and Mitch Emmons, 1-for-3 with one run scored.
Offensive leaders for the Cubs were Logan Williamson, 1-for-3 with one run scored and Ben Bounds, 1-for-3 with one run scored.
Cubs 9, Yankees 7
Plenty of offensive fireworks were on display when the Cubs and Yankees dueled on May 8.
In a game that was played with very few errors, the Cubs managed one more base hit – 10 to 9 – than the Yankees and came away with a hard-fought 9-7 win.
Joseph Adkins tossed a complete game in earning the win for the Cubs. Adkins allowed only five hits while striking-out nine.
Pacing the Cubs offensively were Logan Williamson, 2-for-3 with one run scored; Antonio Hall, 2-for-4 with two runs scored; Ben Bounds, 1-for-3 with two runs scored and Austin Redash, 1-for-3 with one run scored.
Offensive leaders for the Yankees were Tyler Sawyer, 2-for-2 with three runs scored; Gary McGraw, one run scored and Keith Bradley, one run scored.
