Councilman Cary Barton showed off a certificate the city recently received as part of his report on behalf of the safety committee.
He said the committee met on April 25 and discussed the program and several specific steps the city can take to improve safety even further.
He also said the city had been recognized by the Alabama League of Municipalities (ALM) at its recent annual meeting in Huntsville and presented with a plaque.
According to a press release, the award recognized members who have instituted risk management and loss control activities in efforts to reduce their loss ratio.
Approximately 650 public entities participate in one or both of the ALM insurance programs.
Brewton was awarded a silver certificate, which indicates a loss ratio of of below five to 20 percent.
