With only two weeks to go, the Brewton Little League 9- and 10-year-olds' league is winding down its regular season and the Cubs have taken the inside track to secure the league championship.
The Cubs lost to the Braves on Saturday, but secured first place in the league championship due to an upset win by the Athletics over the Cardinals. The only race left is to decide second place between the Cardinals and Braves
Monday, May 12
East Brewton Yankee 11, Braves 8
The East Brewton Yankees jumped out to a big lead and held off the late charging Braves for an 11-8 victory. Trent Wright started for the Yankees and was replaced by Keith Bradley in the late stages of the first inning. Dylan Bell went three innings for the Braves and Ryland Dixon pitched the last inning.
Trent Wright led the Yanks with two hits including a triple, and Bradley, Gary McGraw and Ronnie Burkett each added singles. Devin Burch and Daniel Miles scored two runs, while Wright, Bradley, Brent Blackwell, Hayden Cooper, McGraw, Chris Byrd and Burkett each added one apiece. For the Braves, Bradley Brown led with two hits, including a double, while Eli Tyree and Dylan Bell each had a single. Brown led with two runs scored and Drew Rush, Avery Couture, Ryland Dixon, Nathan Evans, Tyree and Bell each tallied one run.
Cardinals 16,
East Brewton Cubs 4
Cliff Foster and Collin Graves combined to pitch the Cards to a 16-4 victory with the help of some timely defensive plays. Foster pitched three innings allowing four runs on three hits with three strikeouts. Graves pitched the fourth inning allowing no runs on one hit and allowed one free pass. Brewer Grimes started for the Cubs and Jeffery McGowin completed the game for the Cubs.
Graves had a double for the Red Birds while Harrison Horton, Edward Hines and Michael McGaha contributed with singles. Graves, McGaha and Ryan Etheridge scored three runs, Jon Jones and Kameron Winn added two, while Rickey Curry, Foster and Hunter Hanks added one each. The Cubs had five singles on the night by Logan Williamson, McGowin, Ben Bounds, Grimes and Austin Redash. Antonio Hall, Bounds, Grimes and Redash scored the runs for the Cubs.
Tuesday, May 13
Cubs 11, Cardinals 0
Conner Denton and Parker Reiss combined to no-hit the Cardinals in an 11-0 victory and guaranteed the Cubs at least a first place tie for the championship. Denton (6-0) started for the Cubs and pitched three innings allowing only one walk against five strikeouts. Reiss pitched one inning and had two strikeouts. Jon Jones (4-2) pitched two innings allowing nine earned runs on two hits with four strikeouts and 10 walks. Edward Hines finished the game for the Cards with one inning on the hill giving up two earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
The Cubs were led at the plate by Denton with two hits, including a triple, and Reiss' single. Denton, Louis Miller, Randy Davis and Ben Cooper scored two runs each and Dan Smith, Jacorey Powell and Collin Langford scored once.
The Cardinals had many well-hit balls, but the Cubs' defense kept the Red Birds off the base with only Jones reaching on a walk.
Braves 14, Athletics 11
The Braves rallied back against the Athletics for a 14-11 victory. Tyler Dehoff started for the Braves and gave up six runs on four hits. Ryland Dixon (3-3) came on in relief and allowed five runs on no hits with nine strikeouts and nine walks. Trent Robinson pitched all four innings for the Athletics and gave up seven earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and five walks.
The Braves were led by Dylan Bell going 3-3 with a double and a triple. Eli Tyree, Bradley Brown, Tyler Dehoff, Dixon and Nathan Evans each had singles. Bell also scored three runs, Tyree added two, and Brown, Avery Couture, Dehoff, Patrick Weaver, Tyler Etheridge, Dixon, Drew Rush and Evans each crossed the plate once.
For the A's Shawn Odom had two hits including a lead off triple in the first, and Bryant Jernigan and Michael Kast added singles. Trevor Diercks led the A's with three runs scored while Robinson added two. Jernigan, Kast, Spencer Waldrep, Devlin Crosby, Odom and Dakota Stewart each scored once.
Saturday, May 17

Braves 10, Cubs 9
The Braves rallied for seven runs in the fifth to beat the Cubs 10 – 9. Dylan Bell earned the victory for the Braves and Parker Reiss took the loss for the Cubs.
Athletics 9, Cardinals 8
The Athletics rallied from a 7-1 deficit to overcome the Cards 9-8 and earn their second victory of the season. Devlin Crosby earned the victory for the A's and Jon Jones was credited for the loss.
