Heading into the past week's play in the East Brewton Little League's 11-12 year-old division, the Red Sox had been unsuccessful in their efforts to break into the win column. Although playing competitively, they had fallen on the short end of several decisions that could have gone either way.
However, that changed over the past week as the Red Sox knocked-off the Dodgers and Cardinals in consecutive games to improved their season record to 2-4.
Although suffering a loss in their only game played over the past week, the Dodgers remain out front in the league standings with a 4-2 record while the Cardinals continue holding down the second-place position at 3-3.
Red Sox 3, Dodgers 1
A May 13 meeting between the Red Sox and Dodgers featured a matchup of two of the league's top pitchers.
William Shell of the Dodgers and the Red Sox's Jimmy Sims locked-up for six innings in a duel from the mound that saw the two pitchers combine for 22 strikeouts.
The Dodgers, however, committed one more error than did the Red Sox that contributed to the Red Sox exiting the contest on the top end of a 3-1 score.
Sims' winning performance from the mound was highlighted by a three-hitter and 10 strikeouts. Shell took the loss, but kept his team close by allowing only four hits and striking-out 12.
Offensive leaders for the Red Sox were Jamar Travis, 2-for-2 with one run scored; Jimmy Sims, 2-for-3 with one run scored and Will Findley, one run scored.
Pat Busby scored the lone run for the Dodgers.
Red Sox 12, Cardinals 4
The Red Sox received another dominating performance from the mound in a 12-4 win over the Cardinals on May 15.
Tyler Nall controlled the Cardinal batters for six innings in leading his team to its second straight victory. Nall gave-up only three hits and walked four while registering 10 strikeouts.
The Red Sox started quickly out of the gate and built an 8-0 advantage before a Cardinal rally in the fifth inning cut the lead to 8-4.
But, four more Red Sox runs in the top of the sixth regained the 8-run lead before Nall put the finishing touches on the win by shutting-down the Cardinals in the bottom half of the inning.
Leading the Red Sox offense were Chris Payne, 1-for-1 with two runs scored; Tyler Nall, 1-for-3 with one run scored; Jamar Travis, two runs scored and Dylon Smith, two runs scored.
Offensive leaders for the Cardinals were Keven Pace, 2-for-4 with one run scored; Tyler Cross, 1-for-3 with one run scored; Dodson Herrington, one run scored and Logan Blackman, one run scored.
