The Yankees continue to set the pace in the Brewton 11- and 12-year-old's youth baseball league. Meanwhile, the Reds and Royals are battling for second place where the difference is only a half game. The Royals helped their cause by handing the Yankees their first loss of the season.
Reds 9, Rockies 5
The hot hitting Reds got six key hits to beat the Rockies 9-5 Tuesday night. Mabry Cook had two hits including a double, Houston Simmons had a double and Cortez Banks added a single, but timely hitting by Austin Collins two hits and four RBI's led the way. Cook, Banks and Wil Riggs scored two runs and Simmons, Nicholas Powe and Blake Crosby added one apiece. The Rockies tallied two hits by Paul Busby and Taylor Berry had one RBI. Busby, Deonte Powell, Malcolm McMillan, Mikey Roye, and Jake Lewis scored the runs for the Rockies.
Robert Knowles got his first win pitching three innings, allowing three runs (none earned) on one hit as he struck out six and allowed only three walks. Mabry Cook picked up the save, pitching two innings of no-hit baseball and struck out four batters. Taylor Berry picked up the loss for the Rockies as he gave up seven runs (three earned) on five hits while striking our six and gave up five walks. Malcolm McMillan completed the game for the Rockies and gave up two runs (one earned) on one hit and struck out two batters.
Royals 6, Yankees 0
The Royals got a superb pitching performance from Evan Burkett as they shut out the Yankees 6-0 to hand the Yankees their first loss of the season. Burkett gave up only one hit in a complete six-inning game, striking out fourteen batters against only five walks. The Yankees sent four pitchers to the mound, starting with Grant DeFrancisco who gave up two runs (none earned) on three hits with five strikeouts. Corey Williams pitched one inning allowing one run on one hit. Cameron Miller pitched 1-1/3 innings allowing no runs on no hits and Gordon Jones completed the game pitching the last 2/3 of an inning allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit.
The Royals were led at the plate by Garrett Robinson's triple and one RBI, followed by a double by Jacob Gunter and singles by Sam Sharpe, Todd Robinson and Grant McMullen. Sharpe, Garrett Robinson, Todd Robinson, McMullen, Gunter and Shane Thomas scored the runs for the Royals.
Corey Williams had the only hit for the Yankees while four batters reached base on walks.
Friday, April 25
EB Dodgers 5, Royals 0
William Shell pitched a one-hitter as the Dodgers shut out the Royals 5-0. Shell only allowed one base runner while striking out fourteen of nineteen batter faced without giving up a walk. Stephen Warren was credited with the loss for the Royals as he gave up three runs (none earned) on two hits and three strikeouts in two innings. Sam Sharpe gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out seven in three innings and Garrett Robinson pitched one inning of no-hit baseball as he struck out two batters.
Shell also led the Dodgers at the plate with a triple and a single and one run scored. Tyson Godwin added two singles and a run and J.B. provided the final hit with a run scored. Taylor Cash and Pat Busby each scored once.
Corey Rilling had the only hit for the Royals, a single in the fifth inning.
Thursday, May 1
Royals 18, Rockies 1
Evan Burkett gave up only one hit while striking out twelve batters in four inning as the Royals blast the injury riddled Rockies 18-1. Burkett (3-0) faced only sixteen batters and allowed only two walks to earn the win. Taylor Berry (0-3) pitched three inning for the Rockies allowing six runs (two earned) on two hits, striking out three and allowing three walks. Malcolm McMillan completed the last inning for the Rockies as he gave up twelve runs ( five earned) on eight walks against only two strikeouts.
The Royals were led at the plate with Garrett Robinson's home run and 1 RBI, Corey Rilling with a double and a triple and 4 RBI's, a single and a double by Todd Robinson, Burkett with a triple and 3 RBI's and a single and 1 RBI by Sam Sharpe. Burkett, Todd Robinson, Sharpe and Rilling each scored three runs, Garrett Robinson and Stephen Warren added two runs scored and Cody Swain and Abe Hildreth added one apiece.
The Rockies had one hit by Taylor Berry and Paul Busby scored the only run after reaching on an error.
Yankees 9, Reds 2
Corey Williams struck out sixteen batters in six innings as the Yankees beat the Reds 9-2. Williams (4-0) gave up two earned runs on four hits with only two walks. Robert Knowles (1-2) pitched five innings compiling ten strikeouts against two hits. Mabry Cook pitched one inning, allowing four runs on four hits with two strikeouts.
Williams complemented his pitching performance at the plate going four-for-four with two triples, and a home run while knocking in three Yankees. Grant DeFrancisco and Terez Lane added two hits and an RBI each, while Matthew Lane and Shan Fleming were credited with singles. Williams and DeFrancisco scored two runs while Matthew Lane, Gordon Jones, Terez Lane Walter Smith and Fleming each scored once.
Houston Simmons and Cortez Banks each had a triple, a single, and a run scored to lead the Reds.
Friday, May 2
EB Red Sox 13, Rockies 3
Tyler Nall hit a two run homer over the 210 fence in left center to clinch the victory for the Red Sox 13-3 over the Rockies. Jimmy Sims picked up the win for the Sox and Nicholas Moore was charged with the loss for the Rockies.
The Red Sox had nine hits led by Nall's game winning homer and two singles, while Dylan Smith added another in-the-park homer. Chris Payne added two hits as did Jamar Travis including a double and Daniel Heirs added a triple. Nall led the Sox with three runs scored, Payne, Smith and Nathan Frazier added two while Travis, Heath Crutchfield, Sims and Steven Frazier each scored once.
Paul Busby and Mikey Roye each had doubles for the Rockies while Moore and Taylor Berry added singles. Busby scored two runs while Roye scored once.
Tuesday, May 6
Reds 11, Rockies 0
The Reds collected ten hits off the Rockies pitching staff to claim an 11-0 shutout victory. Austin Collins led the Reds with three singles, followed by Houston Simmons' two doubles, Wil Riggs with two hits including a triple, Joe McCorvey's triple while Mabry Cook added a double and Robert Knowles collected a single. The Reds added fifteen stolen bases to their cause with Simmons swiping six and Riggs collecting five. Simmons and Riggs scored three runs, Collins added two and Cook, McCorvey and Cortez Banks chipped in one run each. Paul Busby had two singles for the Rockies and Taylor Berry added the other base hit.
Riggs (1-1) pitched a superb game going six innings, allowing no runs on three hits with eight strikeouts against only two free passes. Malcolm McMillan (1-2) started for the Rockies going three innings, allowing one earned run, on five hits with seven strikeouts. Taylor Berry completed the last three innings of work and gave up four earned runs with five hits and three strikeouts.
Yankees 3, Royals 1
Corey Williams and Evan Burkett squared off in a pitcher's duel with the Yanks coming out on top 3-1. Williams (5-0) remained undefeated as he allowed only one earned run on three hits with thirteen strikeouts and no walks. Burkett (3-1) pitched well allowing only three runs (one earned) on three hits with eight strikeouts against three walks.
Williams continued his good hitting with a double to aid his cause, likewise Gordon Jones added a double with Landon Sowell picking up a single. Sowell, Jones and Matthew Lane scored the Yankees' runs. Garrett Robinson and Sam Sharpe had doubles for the Royals and Todd Robinson contributed with a single and scored the only run for the Royals.
Thursday, May 8
Yankees 7, Rockies 4
Grant DeFrancisco went the distance for the Yanks and gained a 7-4 victory over the Rockies. DeFrancisco (2-1) gave up four runs (two earned) on four hits with nine strikeouts against five walks. Taylor Berry (0-4) pitched three innings allowing four runs (three earned) on two hits with five strikeouts. Malcolm McMillan pitched the final three innings allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits with six strikeouts and two free passes.
Corey Williams led all batters on the night going three-for-three with two triples and three RBI's. Gordon Jones had a double and Grant DeFrancisco added a single. Williams and Jones scored two runs, with Landon Sowell, DeFrancisco and Terez Lane adding one each. For the Rockies, Brian Sims had two hits, including a double, with Berry adding a triple and Nicolas Moore contributing with a single. Sims scored two runs, while Berry and Moore added one score.
Reds 8, Royals 6
The Reds beat the Royals 8-6 to move into second place. Robert Knowles (2-3) pitched a complete game allowing only two earned runs on four hits with ten strikeouts and only three free passes. The Royals started Garrett Robinson (0-3) who went three innings allowing two earned runs on two hits with six strikeouts. Sam Sharpe completed the last two innings allowing no earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts.
Cortez Banks led the Reds with two doubles while Houston Simmons and Wil Riggs adding singles. Banks and Riggs scored two runs while Simmons, Mabry Cook, Blake Crosby and Will Hall each scored once. The Royals were led by Stephen Warren's two hits, including a double with Cody Swain adding a triple and Robinson and Grant McMullen adding singles. Evan Burkett and Robinson scored two runs while Todd Robinson and Warren crossed the plate once
Friday, May 9
EB Dodgers 6, Reds 0
Jake Cannon pitched a great game as he shut out the Reds 6-0. Cannon allowed only two hits while striking out nine with only two walks. The Reds used three pitchers with Cortez Banks (0-1) getting the start. Banks only lasted 1-1/3 innings before being replaced on the mound by Nicholas Powe. Powe pitched 2-2/3 innings and Houston Simmons completed the game for the Reds.
The Dodgers only had one hit by Jake Cannon as Tyson Godwin, William Shell, Taylor Cash, and Cannon scoring once and Paul Miller scoring twice. For the Reds, Austin Collins and Blake Crosby each tallied a hit.
Royals 16, EB Red Sox 6
Jacob Gunter, Cody Swain and Stephen Warren combine to beat the Sox 16-6. Gunter started the game and pitched one inning allowing three runs (none earned) on no hits with one strikeout. Swain (1-0) entered the game in the second and pitched two innings allowing three runs (one earned) on one hit with two strikeouts. Warren completed the game retiring the side in the fourth.
Tyler Nall started for the Sox and was credited with the loss.
Sam Sharpe led the Royals with two hits including a double and a home run, Evan Burkett, Cody Swain each added a double, while Garrett Robinson, Gunter and Shane Thomas added singles. Burkett and Sharpe scored three runs each, Gunter and Garrett McMullen scored two and Swain, Garrett Robinson, Todd Robinson, Warren, McMullen and Abe Hildreth scored on run apiece.
Jamar Travis had two hits for the Red Sox including a double and scored one run. Jimmy Sims, Steven Frazier, Heath Crutchfield, Tyler Nall and Will Findley scored the other runs for the Sox on the night.
