With only one week remaining in the East Brewton Little League's regular season play, the Cubs and Athletics are deadlocked in the 9-10 year-old division's top position.
With two games still to be played against each other, the two division leaders both are 4-2 on the season and will battle to see which will emerge as the champion.
Having suffered two losses over the past week, the Yankees completed their regular season schedule with a 2-6 mark.
Cubs 11, Yankees 7
A May 20 win over the Yankees allowed the Cubs to move to 4-2 on the season while lifting them to the top of the standings.
The victory was the second straight for the Cubs and gave them temporary sole possession of the division lead, while the loss dropped the Yankees to 2-5 and eliminated them from the pennant race.
The Cubs' Logan Williamson controlled the action from the mound as he earned the victory in the 11-7 win.
A's 10, Yankees 3
Needing a May 22 victory over the Yankees to gain a share of the division lead, the A's responded with a 10-3 win that improved their record to 4-2 and perched them atop the standings alongside the Cubs.
Taking control of the game early behind the no-hit performance of starting pitcher Joseph Strength, the A's built a 5-1 lead through four innings before coasting to the win.
Strength gave-up no walks and struck-out 10 over five innings while earning the win in his masterful no-hitter.
Offensive leaders for the A's were Dillon Anthony, 3-for-3 with four runs scored and Reid Johnson, 1-for-1 with one run scored.
Leading the Yankee offense were Keith Bradley, 1-for-3 with one run scored; Justin Hammac, one run scored and Ronnie Burkett, one run scored.
