A Brewton man is facing drug charges after officials with the 21st Judicial Drug Task Force seized a number of young marijuana plants from his residence.
Steve Allen Hobbs, 40, of 1515 Eddie Jackson Road in Brewton, has been charged with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, according to law enforcement officials.
On Tuesday, June 3, agents with the task force obtained a search warrant and, along with deputies from the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, searched the property where Hobbs was living. The search took place at approximately 1:30 p.m. and according to task force officials it ended with the recovery of 42 marijuana plants. The plants were allegedly found in a green house in the back yard of the residence.
Task Force Commander Keith Hutchins said the plants were young but valuable.
Hobbs was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center following the arrest.
The 21st Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force is comprised of the following law enforcement agencies: The Escambia County Sheriff's Office, Atmore Police Department, East Brewton Police Department, Brewton Police Department, Flomaton Police Department, Escambia County District Attorney's Office and the Escambia County Commission.
The task force receives 75 percent of its funding from a grant provided by the Bureau of Justice Affairs Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and is administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. The remainder of the funding is provided by the Escambia County Sheriff's Department, Atmore Police Department, Brewton Police Department and the Escambia County District Attorney's Office.
