There was an empty seat at the East Brewton City Council meeting on Monday and the members of the board are looking to fill it.
The council accepted the resignation of Elaine Parker, representative for District 2, after she announced that she and her family were moving to Florida.
The remaining five members of the council, along with Mayor Terry Clark, are now faced with finding a replacement to fill in the remainder of Parker's term which will expire in August 2004.
According to Clark, the city has three options in filling the vacant seat. They could hold a special election, nominate and vote to approve a replacement, or ask the governor to appoint a replacement. Due to costs involved in holding an election, Clark said it would be better if the council made nominations.
The city council will have 90 days from the time the resignation was accepted to fill the vacancy.
Clark said two people have already come forth expressing interest in the seat. He said others who are interested should contact a councilperson or the city hall.
The person who fills the seat will be required to run for election when the term expires next summer.
Clark said the council will address the issue at the June 23 council meeting. However, action may not be taken at that time.

A resurfacing project that was part of the grant has already been performed. The work on the housing renovations should begin soon, according to Clark;
