The Brewton City Council amended its sales and use tax ordinance Tuesday which will cut the number of funds going to city schools.
According to Mayor Ted Jennings, the original intent was to provide the school system with one cent of the city's three-cent sales and use tax. However, he said in recent years the city has provided additional funds from the tax.
Brewton City Schools Superintendent Lynn Smith was at the meeting and said the amendment would not hurt local schools.
According to the amendment, an additional supplement was unnecessary and caused the city to pay the school system the additional funds.
The council approved the amendment by an unanimous vote.

The ordinance states that trucks and tractor-trailers, detached trailers are prohibited from parking on sidewalks, right-or-ways or in residential zones or the downtown historic district overnight;
