The Brewton City Schools Board of Education approved a contract for the radio broadcast of sporting events and discussed a variety of other items during a meeting held Monday, June 16.
After reviewing three applications from local radio stations, the board of education approved to enter into an agreement with WPPG for the broadcasting rights to T.R. Miller High School football and basketball games during the upcoming season.
According to Superintendent Lynn Smith, T.R. Miller principal Donnie Rotch and head coach Jamie Riggs reviewed the applications.
The approval will continue a relationship between T.R. Miller and WPPG that has allowed the radio station to broadcast games in recent years.
The board approved the superintendent's recommendation to enter into the agreement with WPPG by an unanimous vote.
Members of the board also agreed to renew a contract with the Escambia-Brewton Career Technical Center.
The technical school allows students from across the county to attend. The agreement states that the Escambia County School System will operate and maintain the technical center while the Brewton City School System is charged a fee per student.
According to Smith, the new agreement saw a slight increase in the amount paid per student. The system will pay 12 monthly installments of $9,905 for city students to attend the center in the coming school year.
The board approved the measure by a unanimous vote.
