Those want to include alcohol in their Independence Day celebrations will want to take special care that they do not get behind the wheel of a vehicle.
The Brewton Police Department will be able to strengthen its patrol during the next few weeks as it has been included in a grant sponsored by the Southeast Alabama Medical Center. The program, called "You Drink You Lose," will allow the local department to set up checkpoints within the city and strengthen its patrols by eight to 10 men at various times.
The blitz is scheduled to begin on June 27 and will continue through July 13. The grant will allow police to set up four different checkpoints where they will look for DUI offenders as well as seatbelt and insurance compliance.
