East Brewton City Councilwoman Betty Jordan said she's received several complaints about dogs being released from the city's pound.
East Brewton Mayor Terry Clark said he was not aware of the current problem, but that in the past, someone had broken into the city facilities at two different locations.
He said he believes that some owners are coming in at night and getting their own dogs after they have been picked up by the city's animal control officer. However, the damage done in releasing one dog, often makes the cages and gates unsecure for other animals, though, which is leading to the problem.
Clark told Jordan he would check on the matter.
East Brewton currently has a kennel facility set up behind the city shop.
Jordan also asked if the city could purchase an extended loop tool to help the officer safely catch stray dogs. The council approved the suggestion.
Clark reported that several streets would be getting new blacktop beginning on Tuesday. The project, which was supposed to begin on Monday, will repair several streets and potholes over the coming weeks, Clark said.
The council unanimously approved accounts payable before adjourning.
