Dear Editor
First, I would like to thank all the people associated with the Brewton Little League the past three years. Specifically, Toni Smith and Joey Shell, just to name a few, put on a great performance, as we were the host of the 9-10 and 11-12 year old All Star tournament the past two weeks.
Little League is a special time in a young person's life and it's great to see as a body these young players develop before your eyes. I've enjoyed coaching Little League these past three years and the All-Star experience was extremely gratifying to me and hopefully to the players as well. Although we came up all too short, these young players have tremendous character, dedication and commitment. The performance they put on, especially against Covington County, was something that I certainly will never forget. The fans saw a team effort for their age group that was relentless and without fear. To lose in eight innings to a team with that type of talent and pitching showed the spirit and "fight" in our young boys.
Whether I choose to continue to remain in coaching or not, we need to continue as a community to support our Little League and Babe Ruth Leagues. They are the cornerstone and foundation a child's baseball development; they also help teach the children valuable lessons in life about practice, commitment, and dealing with victory and loss.
Sincerely,
Bob DeFransisco, Head Coach
Brewton 11-12 year old All Stars
