Parents will be able to pick up free child booster seats for their vehicles, fans and smoke detectors will also be available free of charge to citizens here.
The public is invited to Safety Day at Brewton City Hall on Tuesday, July 22.
The event, which kicks off at 10 a.m. is open to the public and free of charge.
According to Escambia County Sheriff Grover Smith, there will also be an 11 a.m. press conference at the event. At that time the public will learn more about the new Weather Service radio transmitter that was recently installed just north of Brewton.
That transmitter will alert residents with special weather radios as severe weather approaches. The City of Brewton Project Impact Committee has been working with local retailers to locate the best radios and have them on hand for local residents to purchase.
Smith has also been working with several civic organizations, such as the Brewton Rotary Club, Brewton Kiwanis Club and Brewton Lions Club, to secure sponsorships that will put radios in the schools, hospitals and nursing homes located across the county.
According to Smith, the transmitter will cover about 95 percent of Escambia County, and covers all but a small portion of the southeast and southwest corners.
Smith said that the East Escambia Chapter of the American Red Cross will be handing out first aid kits.
He also said that the Brewton Fire Dept. will have smoke detectors to hand out.
Fire Chief Lawrence Weaver said his department has detectors available as part of an awareness program it participates in. If the department runs out of detectors at the event, the department will make a list and deliver smoke detectors at a later date.
Child vehicle booster seats will also be available free of charge and a sheriff's deputy will be on hand to help to install the seats properly.
