Next Saturday, seven Brewtonians will be travelling to the state's capitol city to compete with teams from across the state. Instead of competing on a baseball or football field, though, teams will be competing over grills.
Some of Alabama's top wild game chefs will travel to Montgomery Saturday, July 26 to compete for the title of State Wild Game Cook-Off Champion.
Each chef will be preparing their mouthwatering specialty of wild game, fish or fowl for the judges and those lucky individuals in attendance. Competition will be steep as each of these 16 participating chefs won their regional Wild Game Cook-Off in order to secure a position for this state event.
Prizes will be awarded to the state champion, runner-up and third place as well as to the team with the best presentation.
Local Escambia County winners from BankTrust will be cooking their prize-winning dish, Absolut Grilled Tuna which won the county cook-off.
Team members Ed Livingston, Philip Jennings, Debbie Hardy, Cindy Madden, Dan Thomas, Lisa Collison and Kearnest Gantt are looking forward to being in the cook-off.
The festivities kick off at 6 p.m. under the train shed in downtown Montgomery and a crowd of close to 300 people is expected to attend.
In addition to the outstanding cuisine, there will be musical entertainment and a silent auction. Tickets are $25 per person and proceeds will benefit AWF's programs and projects. Wisitors are encouraged to purchase your tickets early. For tickets information call (334) 285-4550.
