American Legion Post 79 to play in loser's bracket

The Brewton American Legion baseball team has been moved to the Loser's Bracket following a loss on Thursday to the Dothan Red Tops in Dothan.
Playing some four innings without a score from either team, the game finished with Dothan coming out on top by a score of 2 to 1. The first run of the evening was recorded by the Brewton team in the fourth inning with James Martin making the score.
The play began with Martin heading to first base on an error. Brad Lannom came up to bat made contact with the ball to help advance Martin to third base.
As Eli Cook came to bat, he made a single play to advance Martin to home and end the inning with the bases loaded.
Pitcher Kurt Prater held the Dothan team scoreless until deep in the seventh inning. He only gave up three single plays to allow the Dothan team to score the two runs that put them on top at the end of the game.
The team advanced in play with a Saturday morning game against loser of the Montgomery and Dothan game played on Friday evening. Scores for the game were unavailable at press time.
The games are being played as part of the American Legion Baseball Division 3 Tournament. Tournament games are scheduled to conclude on Tuesday.
