BankTrust of Brewton won first place at the Alabama Wildlife Federation's 2003 State Wild Game Cook-Off Championships. The Championships were held at the train station in downtown Montgomery on July 26.
Competition was steep as the 14 participating teams were among the best from around the state.
In order to secure a spot for the championships, the teams had to win their local Wild Game Cook-Off event the previous year.
In the end, BankTrust of Brewton rose to the top with their grilled yellow fin tuna entry that was out of this world. The win earned them the title of State Wild Game Cook-Off Champion and the $1,000 first prize.
Congratulations to Dan Thomas and his crew on their winning entree.
A very close second place went to Fowl Mouth, from the Gulf Coast, for their deer tenderloin stuffed with crab meat, while Renee &Yvonne's Fish Camp of Auburn secured third for their crusted empire red fish.
Non-Typical, a team from Guntersville, won the award for best presentation for their very creative display representing a hunting camp, complete with fireplace and trophy mounts.
The purpose of the Wild Game Cook-Offs is to supply a place for AWF members to interact, for non-members to learn more about AWF, and to provide the opportunity to raise funds to support AWF and its programs and projects.
