Mrs. Ethel Jewel Betterton Morton, 77, died Saturday, July 26, 2003 in a Monroe County hospital. She was a native of Butler County and a resident of Repton. She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church in Escambia County, She was retired from Landlubber Company. She was preceded in death by a grandchild.
She is survived by her husband, Jessie Morton of Repton; two sons, Chester T. Carter of Seminole, Ala. and Paul Edward Carter of Atmore; four daughters, Willie Jean Bell of Montgomery, Bettie Mae Grissett and Carolyn Frances Parker, both of Greenville and Wanda Gail Morton of Frisco City; two brothers, Cecil "Bud" Betterton and Willie Frank "Bill" Betterton Jr., both of Georgiana; two sisters, Grace Holley of Georgiana and Doris Cooper of Loango; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 28, at 11 a.m.at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Ira Luker and Rev. Bobby Boatwright officiating. Burial followed at New Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery in Escambia County, Ala. with Monroe Chapel Funeral Home directing. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
