An Escambia County school that was listed as "needs improvement" was not one of the schools removed from that list Thursday.
Escambia Middle School in Atmore was identified as in need of improvement in 2002. There were 52 schools on the list that year, and of the 52, three were removed from the 2003-2004 school year list.
Title I regulations require two consecutive years of improvement to remove a school from the list.
Title I schools get federal monies to improve programs and services to students at risk in any of several categories, such as poverty levels or disabilities.
The Alabama Department of Education is currently conducting further analyses.
Additionally, school 'report cards' or assessment status, were released Thursday as well. The state has issued the following breakdown for each level:
Academic Clear Status- Alabama High School Graduation Exam; Stanford Achievement Test; Alabama Direct Assessment of Writing: Grade Five; Alabama Direct Assessment of Writing: Grade Seven.
Academic Watch Status- Alabama High School Graduation Exam; Stanford Achievement Test; Alabama Direct Assessment of Writing: Grade Five, Levels III and IV; Alabama Direct Assessment of Writing: Grade Seven.
Academic Priority Status – Alabama High School Graduation Exam; Stanford Achievement Test; Alabama Direct Assessment of Writing: Grade Five and Grade Seven.
Percentages of passing scores in reading varied across the county. In the high school level, 97 percent of students passed. A 40 percent passing grade at the middle school level and 45 percent at the elemtnary school level has also been determined.
