Mrs. Mazie J. Hanks, 84, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003 in Flomaton. She was a native of Frisco City and a resident of Flomaton for the past 30 years. She was retired from Monsanto and attended the Gospel Light Temple. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas B. "Burley" Hanks and a son, Kenneth Hanks.
She is survived by a son, Thomas "Tony" Hanks of Jay; five daughters, Genene Baggett of McCullough, Elizabeth Johnson and Tiny Waters, both of Century, Fla., Glenda Averett of Atmore and Mary Griffis of Flomaton; a sister, Luvenia Calloway of Atmore; 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 14, at 2 p.m. at the Gospel Light Temple with Rev. Bobby Carnley and Rev. Wallace Reid officiating. Burial followed at Godwin Cemetery with Eastside Chapel Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were Sammy Portwood, Jamie Garrett, Greg Sims, Bud Campbell, Wade White and Bryan Caro. Honorary pallbearers were Johnnie Griffis, Chad Hanks, Jamie Waters, Wade Harris, Matt Hanks, Jimmy Baggett and Robin Baggett.
