Over the last several weeks the Escambia County Health Department, along with other health related offices, have had a lot of questions fired at them.
Parents have had questions about ways to prevent infections and deaths of their loved ones. Ricky Elliott, an environmentalist with the Escambia County Health Department, has risen to the questions with some clear answers. He has offered information on how to help eliminate, or at least curb, the reproduction and birth of mosquitoes in the area. These answers have given many people a little bit of peace.
Answers, though sometimes slow in coming, have been given. The actual cause of a local boy's death was released last week. That answer, understandably so, has seen some officials in the health field cringe with fear and become visibly saddened by the problem we as a community face.
We believe it is very stressful to have to answer questions about a problem that is relatively new to this area. We also believe that area officials have stood up to the challenge and have given the information to the public in as reasonable a manner as has been possible.
Although we would not want to be in the shoes of these officials, we congratulate them for taking on the task that their job entails and are for tackling it well.
