Mrs. Willa Jean Mayo Sowell, 77, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003. She was a native of Birmingham and a former resident of Brewton. She retired with 30 years of service from the State of Alabama Division of Securities and Pensions and served as secretary at First Presbyterian Church in Brewton for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Sowell.
She is survived by a son, John Sowell of Newport, N.C.; a sister, Mary Kathryn Hollinshead of Chesapeake, Va. and two grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Monday, Aug. 18, at 10 a.m. at Union Cemetery with Elder Lee Otts and Dr. Baxter Baker officiating and Craver's Funeral Home directing. Honorary pallbearers were Sam Bailey, Benton Steadham, Charles Fountain and William Luker.
