Escambia County Commissioner James H. Hall Jr. has recently completed 120 hours of a training program made available to county officials in Alabama from the Alabama Local Government Training Institute.
Hall attended classes in Montgomery from September 2002 through August 2003.
This program emphasizes budgeting, personnel matters, planning and road and bridge responsibilities.
The officials were honored Thursday during the Awards Ceremony of the 75th Annual Convention of the Association of County Commissions of Alabama. Also, during the ceremony, other commissioners were honored after completing the first level of the program.
This unique educational program began in 1994 and was made mandatory for first time county commissioners by act of the Alabama Legislature.
The education programs are supervised by the Board of Directors of the Alabama Local Government Training Institute (ALGTT), composed of county officials, educators and members of the Legislature.
The Association of County Commissions of Alabama is the statewide organization that represents county government in Alabama.
The organization promotes improved county government services in Alabama, offers educational programs for county officials and their staff members, administers insurance programs for county governments and employees, offers legal advice and assistance and represents the interest of county government before state and federal organizations and agencies.
The activities of the Association are governed by a Board of Directors composed of three officers, past presidents and representatives elected from 12 districts statewide.
