Mr. Walter L. Ashton, 102, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003. He was a native of Brewton and had been a long-time resident of the New Orleans area while working as a supervisory auditor for the General Accounting Office, Field Operations, New Orleans Division. After retiring in 1964, he returned to East Brewton and resided there until moving to Mandeville, La. in 2000. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma S. Ashton and a daughter, Gladys A. Mashburn.
He is survived by two sons, Walter L. Ashton Jr. of Metairie, La. and Jackson A. Ashton of Slidell, La.; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Craver's Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Daniel officiating. Burial followed at Fort Crawford Cemetery with Craver's Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Douglas Ashton, Mark Ashton, David Ashton, Patrick Ashton, Joe Mashburn, Lewis Mashburn and John Mashburn.
