The City of Brewton will operate with a budget that comes in just below $4 million during the coming fiscal year.
The city council voted to approve the budget, which was presented at the council's first meeting in September. All members of the council voted for the budget except councilman Dennis Dunaway, who abstained.
Brewton will celebrate Halloween on Thursday, Oct. 30 this year. Brewton Police Chief David (Mickey) Lovelace said he had talked to East Brewton Police Chief Wilson Mallard, and both cities will hold activities from 5 to 8 p.m.
The council also agreed to look into a request related to access to the 80.8 acres of land it recently sold to Richard McConaughey.
By using an existing road located off Old Castleberry Road, access to the property can be gained without using Dogwood Lane.
Brewton Mayor Ted Jennings said he would contact the Park and Recreation board to get the change made.
Brewton's outstanding warrant balance climbed to over $310,000, according to Lovelace. There are currently 702 outstanding warrants and 175 license suspensions for non-payment have been issued over the last two months.
