Special teams play has not only been a key to the success for the T.R. Miller Tigers at the varsity level this season, but it also played a key role in Monday's 33-6 win over the visiting W.S. Neal Blue Eagles at the "B" team level.
Two key special teams plays turned what had been a tight game into a 21-point lead for the Tigers at halftime.
T.R. Miller (3-0) had a 14-6 lead with 2:30 left in the half when the Blue Eagles were unable to get off a punt attempt deep in their own territory after a low snap.
W.S. Neal (1-1), which surrendered the ball on its own 14-yard line, dodged one bullet but not a second. The Tigers' Briddell Jones had a 13-yard touchdown run on fourth down nullified on a holding penalty, but on the next play T.R. Miller quarterback Jordan Cauley connected with Mikel Riggs on a 13-yard touchdown strike. An extra point kick extended the Tigers' lead to 21-6.
Disaster hit W.S. Neal on the ensuing kickoff when T.R. Miller recovered a fumble at the Blue Eagles' 35. That set up a 22-yard touchdown strike from Cauley to Jason McCreary.
