Brewton Mayor Ted Jennings will look into paying off a 1997 general obligation warrant early if interest rates from local banks make such a move possible.
Jennings requested permission to send a letter to each of the local banks at Tuesday's Brewton City Council meeting. He said he would ask for rates for a one-year, balloon note.
The council also voted to approve the resolution that will finalize the sale of city land to RPM Development. A contingency that access to the property be granted from Dogwood Lane was removed from the deed.
There will be a public hearing on a restaurant liquor license for the Tomato Cafe. Owners William (Will) F. Ruzic and Mary Margaret (Molly) Ruzic plan to open the restaurant in downtown in early December.
Dr. Keith Miller was re-appointed to the Library Board.
Pete Diurno reported that 283 license suspensions had been ordered for people with outstanding warrants from municipal court. The outstanding balance on those warrants is $299,911.72.
The council approved a recommendation from Dr. Bob Hayes, on behalf of the Tree and Beautification Commission, that Bill Hitzke install a new roof on the Union Cemetery carriage house. The project will cost $4,896.
Councilmen Frank Cotten and Cary Barton, as well as Recreation Supervisor Gary Hill will work with members of the Sportsmans Club to formalize the city's ongoing relationship as it relates to improvements at Sportsman's Park.
Two agenda items were carried over by the council.
The council will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 4 for its next regular meeting.
