The Jefferson Community College Lady Warhawks volleyball team kept their season alive Monday when they defeated Central Alabama 30-26, 30-28, 30-19 in the elimination bracket of the Alabama College State Tournament held at Northwest Shoals College.
Lucretia Merritt powered the Lady Warhawks to the victory with a team high eight kills, while Monica Sims added seven.
Amanda Dearing and Lashundra Clausell provided some crisp serving, as each had three aces.
"We probably played our best match of the season. We did just about everything well, but probably the area where we played the best was our court movement," Lady Warhawks coach Misti Nims said.
JDCC (7-23) fell in the first round to host Northwest Shoals College in straight sets.
"We played O.K., but Northwest Shoals is pretty tough. They were the number one seed and they were playing at home," Nims said. "Northwest Shoals has a lot of height and teams like that tend to give us a lot of trouble."
