John Dilmore Jr., 31, has been named publisher of the Brewton Standard and Escambia Advertiser and president of Brewton Newspapers, Inc.
Dilmore, who has served as The Standard's managing editor since Oct. 1, replaces Bill Crist, who has accepted a job as associate publisher of the Brownwood (Texas) bulletin.
Dilmore assumed his new duties at The Standard on Oct. 30. Crist will remain on board at the paper until Nov. 7 in a consulting/support role.
Dilmore is a native of Brandon, MS.
He is a past publisher of The Scott County Times in Forest, MS and The Advertiser News, Lamar County News and Petal News in Hattiesburg, MS.
Before coming to Brewton, he worked briefly in the News and Marketing Department at The University of Southern Mississip-pi in Hattiesburg.
Dilmore is a 1995 graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in journalism.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity to serve as publisher of The Standard," Dilmore said. "In the short time I've been in Brewton, I've been made to feel very much at home here.
Dilmore also said that serving as publisher of a paper with The Standard's rich history was something he valued and appreciated greatly.
"The Standard has long made a difference in Brewton and Escambia County by reflecting the beliefs and values of its readers, and being a tireless advocate for the communities it serves. That won't change," Dilmore said. "The Standard has been, and will continue to be, a leading voice in these communities."
