The Brewton Police Department has made two arrests in a string of burglaries which took place over the last couple of months.
Bernard Benson, an 18-year-old black male of Bryant Circle, was arrested on Wednesday, Nov. 5, and charged with burglary, second degree at Nordmeyer Tires, burglary, third degree at Spudds Service Station on St. Nicholas Avenue and burglary, third degree at Golden Motors.
Frederick J. Williams, an 18-year-old black male of St. Nicholas Avenue, was also arrested and charged with two counts of burglary, third degree at Spudds on St. Nicholas Avenue.
Chief David Lovelace said that it was a joint effort within the police department to break the case. Sgt. Feast Broughton, Officer Gene Oliver, Officer Shirley Elliott and Officer Jimmy Baisden were responsible for the arrest, and Sgt. Russell Martin and Sgt. Eric Suarez were the investigative officers.
Lovelace also said that most of the other police business was pretty routine over the past few days, but there is still an ongoing problem with 18-wheelers and log trucks going down Belleville Avenue.
