The 2003-2004 T.R. Miller High School Band has had quite a successful marching season this year.
The band has competed in two marching contests. The first contest was in Chilton County at the Chilton County Peach Blossom Band Festival. The band earned straight superior ratings as well as coming away with the "Best in Class" awards for drumline and colorguard.
The Tiger band ended their competitive season on Oct. 25 in Theodore. The band competed against bands from Mississippi, Florida and Alabama. Again the marching band earned straight superior ratings in marching colorguard, majorettes, drumline and drum majors.
In addition, the band won the overall best band award, best drumline award, best majorettes award and best drum major award. The majorettes also won "Best in Show" majorette line.
It has been about 10 years since the marching band at T.R. Miller has won every division in a marching contest.
The band's majorette teacher is Ann Peevy. The colorguard sponsor is Joy Miller, and the colorguard teacher is Rick Gates. Brian Hammond continues to help with marching and playing at the Miller Band rehearsals.
The Miller drumline will be recording drum cadences and solos for the 2004 "Jalen Publishing Company," Major said. This is the second year in a row that the drumline has been asked to perform this honor.
Over 40,000 copies of this CD will be delivered to every high school and middle school in the United States.
This, Major said, is a tremendous honor, as the Miller drumline and the name "T.R. Miller High School" will be on the cover of the CD, which ships in March.
