Zelma Lorraine Hendrieth Johnson

Mrs. Zelma Hendrieth Johnson, 86, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003. She was a native and life-long resident of Brewton. She was a member of Old Springhill Primitive Baptist Church from an early age where she participated in many church activities. She was a member of the the NAACP and served as vice president of the organization for many years. She was a volunteer with the IRS for over 20 years and served as a member of the International Benevolent Society, an officer in the Women's Congress and a teacher. She received degrees from Alabama State University and taught school in Escambia County for over 40 years. She was preceded in death by her first husband, O'Neal Burns and all 13 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Horace E. Johnson; a daughter, Joyce Thompson; devoted nephews whom she raised, William Brown Jr. and Gordon Brown; a grandson and a host of other friends and relatives.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 8, at Second Saint John Missionary Baptist Church with Elder Norman Miller officiating. Burial followed at Spring Hill Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
