As the holiday season draws to a close, congratulations are in order for many who've put time and effort into making the season merrier for others.
We ran an article last week on what goes into getting Brewton and East Brewton ready for the season from an aesthetic standpoint. A considerable amount of planning and hard work -- on the part of elected officials and the private sector -- is involved in dressing up the cities for Christmas. Everyone who played a part in this process did a good job. The area looks festive, and would give the right impression to anyone seeing it for the first time -- these are communities that take pride in themselves, and take seriously how they are represented.
That's something that's done on behalf of us all. But additionally, there are many groups in the area who work to make the holidays bright for specific groups of people, most notably children who might otherwise not have a cheerful Christmas.
From the Chamber to our area civic clubs and individuals who take it upon themselves to give, these people have done "good works" in the truest sense of what those words mean.
Now we all focus on those closest to us, the family and friends with whom we'll spend the holiday itself. But for those who've spread holiday cheer to people outside the circle of those to whom they're closest, our hats are off to you. You've helped make our communities better places.
