Mr. Billy Joe Dowdy, 71, of Bradley Road in the Bradley Community, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003 at an Opp nursing facility after an extended illness. He was a native of Muscogee, Fla., former resident of Pensacola, Fla. and a long-time resident of Wing, Ala. He attended Bradley Assembly of God Church and was a retired salesman.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie Boyette Dowdy of Wing; a daughter, Melanie Lanier of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; six sisters, Doris Steele and Sybil Chesser, both of Escambia Farm, Fla., Clima Dowdy of Crestview, Fla., Edwina Thomas of Mobile, Diane Madden of Pensacola and Sally Peston of Milligan, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Ruth Dowdy of Escambia Farm; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 27, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Sonny Willingham officiating. Burial followed at Bradley Assembly of God Church with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
