The Brewton Police Department had a busy holiday season, making arrests in a pair of high profile robberies.
On Dec. 15, BPD officers arrested Darryl D. Jones, 18, of 614 Stevens St. in Brewton for the early December robbery of Pic-N-Sav in Brewton, during which over $14,000 was taken.
Jones has been charged with robbery, first degree -- armed robbery.
The Pic-N-Sav robbery occurred Dec. 6 at 9:07 p.m. when a store employee was approached by two men while walking to her car in the parking lot, Lovelace said.
The men demanded that the employee drop the bank deposit bag she was carrying, and she complied and ran back to the store after seeing what she believed to be a weapon being carried by one of the men.
The employee told police the men left the scene on foot, heading southeast.
A total of $14,232 was taken during the robbery.
Police have recovered a small amount of the cash that was taken, Lovelace said.
On Dec. 24, police arrested William Levine Richardson, 43, of 109 Kelly Alley in Brewton in connection with a burglary that had occurred two days earlier.
During that incident, a small amount of jewelry, a Dell laptop computer and a Playstation 2 were taken from a home at 306 Stallworth St. in Brewton.
Richardson has been charged with possession of stolen property, a felony, Lovelace said.
Heading the investigations of both these cases are Lt. Randy Nicholson, Sgt. Eric Suarez and Sgt. Russell Martin.
Brewton Police have also been busy recently trying to make parents aware that their children will not be allowed to ride motorized scooters on city streets. Lovelace issued a warning to this effect prior to Christmas, but said there has still been a significant problem in this area.
Lovelace said that if a child is seen riding a motorized scooter on a city street, the scooter will be impounded, and the parents of the child involved will be issued a citation.
