The Brewton City Council voted last night to lend its support to the Shotgun Hill Industrial Park project, which has so far brought a number of area governments together in a combined effort to lure industry to the region.
The council's vote Tuesday did not require it to spend money on the project -- the city has already contributed $4,000 toward a feasability study for the project by way of the Brewton Development Authority.
The Shotgun Hill project has area cities, counties and development groups working to develop an induustrial park on the Conecuh County side of I-65, just off Highway 41.
The idea behind the park is that if a major employer could eventually be lured to the site, the jobs and other assets it brought to the table would benefit all parties involved.
Brewton's Yank Lovelace, who is spearheading the project, was present at the council meeting. He told the council, "Just to get them (new industry) to locate in our region means jobs to the people in our area."
